Alternative Career Transitions for International Legal Professionals
Catholic Immigration Centre in partnership with LASI World Skills has launched a new bridging program for International Legal Professionals (ILPs) to assist them in their search for meaningful employment.
The Alternative Career Transitions for International Legal Professionals (ACTILP) program will provide participants with a comprehensive training course, which will include the following workshops:
- Introduction to Canadian Legal Systems
- Introduction to Legal Sector Labour Markets
- Identifying Transferable Skills
- Communication Skills in the Legal World
- Legal Sector Terminology and Language
- Researching Canadian Law Databases
- Developing Targeted Resumes and Cover Letters
- Focused Job Search Techniques and Resources
- Canadian Employer and Workplace Culture
- Legal Sector Interview Techniques and Skills
- Mock Interviews
- Succeeding in the Workplace
The program will also provide participants with one-on-one resume preparation assistance, career guidance, and work experience opportunities. With the assistance of the program and community supporters, ILPs will be able to recognize their transferable skills and market themselves to employers.
Each participant will be individually assessed. Program entrance eligibility criteria include:
- Work and/or education commensurate with having been a legal professional before arriving to Canada.
- Canadian Language Benchmark Level 7.
- Willingness to explore alternative employment
