Youth Host Program (YHP)

The YHP connects newcomer and Canadian youth ages 14-24 for social and cultural activities, sports, outings, events, and more.

Newcomers get the opportunity to practice English/French, learn about Canadian culture, network with others, receive advice, and make a friend.

Volunteers get to learn about new cultures, gain a better understanding of what it's like for a newcomer, and meet some really cool people. Volunteer activities can count towards community service hours.

During their experience, newcomers and volunteers will attend activities and events (such as movie nights, pick-up sports, and festivals), hang out with other youth, learn from each other, and have fun!

Youth Host Program
Time commitment: 6 months.

Volunteers meet with their newcomer match at least twice a month. Meetings can be part of our organized events and activities or can be planned independently by the volunteer and newcomer. We encourage volunteers and newcomers to keep in touch by E-mail and phone.

Sports Program (starting in the summer 2009)
Time commitment: Saturday afternoons, bi-monthly.

Once the snow melts a pick-up sports program will begin using easily accessible city parks. Play pick-up soccer, basketball, ultimate Frisbee, beach volley ball and more. Share your skills with our newcomer youth! This is a great opportunity to have fun while helping us promote a healthy lifestyle to newcomer youth.

Homework Club
Time commitment: Monday and Wednesday evening

Homework club helps newcomer children and youth with their daily homework in English and French.
